Fall is an emotionally evocative time for me. It is a time when I feel melancholy, but in a way that I enjoy. I love walking with Asha as the leaves rain down and the cool air whisks them around. As we walked through the neighborhood this morning I was noticing the brown color of the leaves until I turned down our street and saw a carpet of yellow. It brightened my spirit. And as it turns out, the carpet of yellow was spread out around my own house

I like it when you post pictures from your wanderings with Asha, and I’m really liking the fall colors, the carpet of yellow.
I’m meeting Woodrow today!

Yes, that would be great fun. I must say though that I think I would enjoy a ramble around Ireland.

Leaves
There’s enough leaves in this picture to supply a large contingent of colonels.

Re: Leaves
Hmmm…okay, I must ask if the connection between colonels and leaves is a military term. Are colonel leaves the little metal things they wear on their uniforms to designate their rank?

Re: Leaves
That’s exactly right! I always thought the use of leaves to denote (high) rank to be curious and compelling; actually rather poetic.
It’s my belief the sentiment is that soldiers lost in war are as leaves that fall from the trees. Someone must account for their souls. Colonels wear leaves to make everyone feel more secure.

Re: Leaves
That is really interesting and yes, rather poetic. Thanks for telling me about it!
